This is one assignment where I bring in my faith and say that I am continually thankful for the many supports in my life. Most importantly is my husband. He is my biggest support because he is so patient and always does whatever is needed with the house or the kids so that I can get my schoolwork done. Many times the only time I have to get assignments done or read the required articles is in the evening, which means he is responsible for baths and bed. With three small children, that is no easy task! Having him be that supportive of my desire to obtain my degree is what allows me the time to get the work done. There are many times throughout the day that I count my blessings and thank God for him. I cannot imagine how I would do all of this schoolwork, and my regular full-time job, and keep up with the house and the kids if I were a single parent. I am sure that I would find the time, but I wouldn't be able to focus as well on the assignments because I would be worried about all of the things that weren't getting done.
Looking further at the possibility that I became a single parent and still was attending school and working, I would have to look at other supports that could be available. The main concern would be caring for the children and taking care of household chores in the evening so I could get my schoolwork done. I could attempt to organize some type of child care co-op where I would watch a friend's children so she could do things that she needed, and she would then watch my children on another evening so I could focus on schoolwork. I would also have to depend on my children more to help with household chores. I would need their support, as caring for three children and a home is no easy task! These are not even to mention the financial bind I would be in if I did not have my husband. I would have to depend on my parents or loan companies for additional funds to pay the college so I could complete my degree.
I have always been thankful for my husband and my family, but looking at this assignment has helped me to realize that I need to be even more thankful and to show him how thankful I am for all that he does to make my life easier so that I can finally complete my degree.
